Sirius Radio Podshow Audio Quality

Jonna bought me a Sirius Satellite Radio setup for the car for Christmas in preparation for the Howard Stern move. One of the stations that I listen to is Sirius Stars 103, for the Adam Curry Podshow. One thing I noticed was that this channel sounded very much like AM radio. I had mentioned this to Jonna when I first set it up, but thought it was just me.

Well, on today’s Daily Source Code (#316) someone actually asked the question about the sound quality and Adam explained it. It actually is lower quality. It’s not my brain playing tricks on me.

This aside though, the first two weeks of satellite radio has been cool. I like being able to pay for unedited and uncensored content and while there are commercials, it is nothing like terrestrial radio. No 20 minute commercial breaks. I’m really liking it - aside from the three or four spots on the way to work where the signal dies and I get the “aquiring signal” message …

One final thing, Sirius 103 is the only channel I’ve had this quality of sound with. Everything else sounds great.

Just a bit of a misnomer is that the news/talk stations have a commercials, while the music stations do not have any.

yes. This is true. I forgot to mention that in the original post.

I have had Sirius for over a year and have loved it, particularly the classical channels. Recently, though, there has been a decline in audio quality, particularly in high frequencies. With high voices or string music, it’s like a home recording made with the level too high — distorted and screechy, sometimes painful. Have you any idea what’s going on? I used to be quite happy with the audio. Tried a new receiver, no help.
