Sitting here this morning watching the news with Jonna, a story came on about the death of Terry Armour, Chicago Tribune columnist, co-host of the Stan and Terry show on WCKG and long time contributor to the Steve Dahl Show. There is a post from Stan on the Stan and Terry web site, as well as a post from Steve on Dahl.com.

I enjoyed listening to Terry on the radio over the years, first on the Dahl show and later on his and Stan’s show on coffee runs to Starbucks. For a while there, it was the only thing I listened to on the radio. He was entertaining and came across as an all around great guy.

May he rest in peace.

OK, 2006 is officially the year that hell froze over.

First we have Metallica making their music available on iTunes and Napster, then Steve Dahl and Garry Meier reunite for a show yesterday, August 18.

I found reference to this on Dahl.com and couldn’t believe it. Thankfully, Dahl started publishing his daily shows as podcasts earlier in the year and I was able to download it and hear for myself this unbelievable point in radio history.

I haven’t listened to Dahl for quite some time, as most of my listening has moved over to podcasts. Even before the switch to time shifted media, I found Dahl to be a little too sedated for me. However, the Steve and Garry Show was one of the staples of growing up for me and I have to say, its so nice to hear the two of them on the air again.

There is an incredible chemistry between these two guys when you put microphones in front of them. There is something about Meier that really brings out the best in Dahl. I switch the show on every now and again, but it seems to move too slowly for me to actually “get into”. With Meier back in the mix, the show had a much quicker pace, was much more energetic, and I have to say, was damn funny. As a matter of fact, I cannot remember a time that I have laughed out loud as much listening to this show in the last ten years as I have this morning with Garry back in the mix.

With all of the hostility that has gone on over the years, you would expect things to be very uncomfortable with these two getting together. Listening though, its like the break up never happened. Each of them seemed to “drop right into place” with each other, and the shows energy was raised considerably.

There are a few things in life that just seem to be meant to be. Steve and Garry on the radio is one of those things that fall into that category, whether they like it or not. Its probably only wishful thinking, but it would be so great to see these two actually pair up again permanently. It would be an incredible boon for WCKG at this point, and I would actually consider putting that radio back in my office again during the day.

Think about it guys. The show this morning most definitely made my day today. From the looks of the Dahl.com forums, it seems I’m not the only one.

Plane Crash Kills Rock Guitarist
A small plane crashed into a mansion and burst into flames Friday, killing the lead guitarist of the Ozzy Osbourne rock group and two other people, police said. The plane twice buzzed the house, where the rock group was staying, and on a third pass clipped the rock group's tour bus and a tree, then slammed into the two-story colonial home, officials said. Killed were guitarist Randall Rhoads, 25, pilot Andrew Aycock, 36, and Rachel Youngblood, 58, the group's makeup artist and hairdresser, said Lake County Deputy Sheriff Mike Smalt. All were aboard the plane. Osbourne - known for such stage antics as biting off the head of a live bat - was in the bus but was not hurt, Smalt said. Several other group members escaped unhurt from the mansion before it was gutted by flaming gasoline that spewed from the Beechcraft Bonanza, officials said. Rhodes and Ms. Youngblood were from Los Angeles, Smalt said. Smalt said Aycock lived at Flying Baron Estates, the wealthy, private airport community about three miles east of Leesburg where the crash occurred. The group was staying at the mansion before a concert scheduled for Orlando today. Members of the group quickly left the crash site and it was not known whether they would perform. Jack Barker, Atlanta regional spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the FAA flew an investigator to the scene Friday. He said the National Safety Transportation Board also would investigate. The bus - outfitted with plush chairs, video games and a stereo system - was punctured by the wing of the aircraft.

I found this Behind the Music video on YouTube and thought it was cool.
